Beach Weekend 1950s Style
Please see my correspondence with Brother Wiliam A. Timmons T' 715 (posted with his permission) below.
George,
I appreciate the correspondence and when I get back to my regular residence I will look for some stuff. I became a brother in the mid-50's and when we moved into the new house. Some others in that era were Willie K Turner, Rex Holloway, Creep Kreimer to name a few. We didn't win a lot of football games but the partying was the same either way.
We had a ton of engineering majors and Korean War veterans and they didn't hesitate to relax on the weekends. We had a band that played for us every weekend during the fall for $125.00. They were a R&B group from Kissimmee. The Theta Chi house was the place to be on football weekends and the ladies on the campus would break date to get a chance to come over. I have attached a video that was made at Panama City during that era. This was the kind of activity that took place at the house. I and several guys were from NW Florida and Panama City was our entertainment during the summer when we had breaks from work.
Fraternally,
Wiliam A. (Hot) Timmons
PS-Ok to post. And by the way the Kreimer I mentioned is Bob who was an outstanding chapter president and did a lot of work after he retired from the USN. And the cost of the band I mentioned was for Friday and Sat nites!
All of the area across the street from the house was woods and was used for lovers' parking. We were the only house on the row for a while! And Alachua was a dry county!
Tau Chapter stands on the shoulders of our alumni brothers. Thanks for sharing William.
